| 'It is not often that one is presented with an opportunity to design and build a brand new Masters-level degree from scratch. It is a great pleasure and privilege to work with the ifs on this degree course, which I have no doubt will come to be seen as amongst the leading graduate courses in banking and finance for industry professionals. One of the key strengths of this programme is its emphasis on practical relevance and I am pleased to have been able to assist in developing the Capital Markets and Bank ALM module, the syllabus for which reflects accurately market practice and discipline in today’s banking market.' Professor Moorad Choudhry, Treasurer, Corporate Banking Division, Royal Bank of Scotland |
Global events of the last few years demand that today’s banking professionals are able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the issues facing both the financial sector itself and the worldwide economy. Banks increasingly expect their employees and, more specifically, senior managers to have the requisite skills to operate to the highest professional standards.
The financial services arena is highly competitive and the MSc in Banking Practice and Management and Chartered Fellowship (CFifs) will help you to differentiate yourself from your peers. Enhancing employability is a key objective of the programme. The course addresses topics of most importance in today’s changing banking environment and will support you to develop the necessary broad base of underpinning specialist knowledge in all the areas that are most critical to the successful management of a financial services organisation.
The MSc programme is split into three levels, each of which leads to the award of a recognised postgraduate qualification in its own right. This flexible approach provides a number of “stopping-off” points on the way to achieving the full MSc in Banking Practice and Management and Chartered Fellowship (CFifs). The Postgraduate Certificate can be achieved in an 8 month study period, whilst the Postgraduate Diploma will take a further 8 months to complete.
| “The MSc is about equipping yourself to be able to undertake a senior leadership role within a financial services organisation. The responsibility for any senior leader in this type of role is huge, as are the implications of decisions made. The MSc has so many parts which make up the whole: taking time to assess how financial organisations undertake their activities; looking at past successes and failures, the impact of making decisions. We are studying all this in the context of the financial services environment, the economy, the industry and the assumptions upon which changes are made. Without this understanding I could not realistically have reached my potential within the industry. My focus now is to achieve as much as possible whilst studying and see where it takes me.” Neil Ward BSc (Hons) ACIB, Current MSc Student |
