BSc (Hons) in Financial Markets and Management

Whether you are in, or aspiring to, a middle or senior management position, the BSc (Hons) in Financial Markets and Management will provide you with the expert knowledge and skills required to enhance your career prospects. The degree is delivered, assessed and awarded by the ifs School of Finance (subject to validation).

The compulsory module of the degree, Strategic Management in Financial Services, will take you through a variety of topics, including strategic management concepts and skills with reference to case studies and empirical evidence. The option modules within the degree encompass a wide range of subjects, allowing you to focus your study to support your own career path.

On completion of the programme you will be awarded with the designation: BSc (Hons).

Level

The degree is assessed at Level 6 in the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications

Duration

There is a limit of 4 years from your first BSc registration to complete the qualification. You will not be allowed to re-register for the qualification if you do not complete within this time limit.

Cost

During your studies you are required to be a member of the ifs. The membership fee is currently £98 (£49 after 1 July). The cost of each module depends on the study method you select:

Modules

To complete the BSc you need to achieve 120 credits by completing a combination of a compulsory module and optional electives:

Compulsory module (30 credits)

  • Strategic Management in Financial Services *

Option modules (30 credits)

  • Credit Analysis and Lending
  • Globalisation of Financial Markets
  • Retail Business Strategy *
  • Corporate Finance 1**
  • Corporate Finance 2
  • Risk Financing and Management
  • Wealth Management

* Strategic Management in Financial Services must be attempted before Retail Business Strategy.
** You must also have taken and passed the Quantitative Methods for Finance and Investment module from the ifs Foundation Degree in Financial Markets and Management or Diploma in Higher Education in Financial Markets and Management, or an equivalent module in terms of content or level before embarking on Corporate Finance 1.

Studying

The course of study lasts 24 weeks and the overall study time for the module is 300 hours (approximately 12 hours per week), including assessment preparation time. You will be guided through your studies by the learning materials and supported by your tutor.

Learning support

Assessment

All modules are assessed by a combination of the following components:

  • a 3-hour written examination (70% of overall mark)
  • 1 coursework assignment (30% of overall mark)
