Why study for the Certificate or Diploma in Retail Credit?

The Certificate and Diploma in Retail Credit are specialist qualifications designed to equip employees of the RBS group with an understanding of the practices and principles involved in retail credit banking.

Entry requirements

You must be a current employee of The Royal Bank of Scotland Group.

Students are required to have a minimum of GCSE grade C or equivalent in English Language and Maths. You must also have a level of proficiency, as exemplified for example by GCSE standard, in ICT. You will need to have Internet and email access throughout your course of study, and to access the online student induction and syllabus.

Qualification level

The full Diploma is assessed at first year undergraduate degree level.

Study time

You should expect to complete the Certificate in 12-18 months and the Diploma in an additional 12 months.

How do I study?

You must follow an approved course of study provided by ifs distance or flexible learning. Please see Study support and exam information for Diplomas for more information.

Study support

On registration for Financial Markets and Risk and Organisations and Individuals, you will be sent a dedicated set of learning materials.

You will be given access to the ifs Interactive Learning Environment (my ifsILE) for these units, which includes online versions of the materials, online self-assessment and discussions forums.

On registration for Principles of Lending and Consumer Credit Risk Management, you will be sent:

Assessment

The Certificate and Diploma in Retail Credit are assessed and awarded by the ifs School of Finance.

The Financial Markets and Risk and Organisations and Individuals modules comprise three assessment components:

  1. A one-hour paper-based multiple-choice examination (except Organisations and Individuals, which is a written examination requiring short answers)
  2. Tutor-guided coursework
  3. A written assignment

The Consumer Credit Risk Management and Principles of Lending modules are assessed by an objective test, delivered electronically.
