The module is aimed at students who wish to develop their understanding and knowledge of strategic management in the consumer and/or small business markets in financial services. The module is appropriate for a wide range of financial services organisations, including banks, building societies, insurance companies, financial intermediaries and retailers offering financial services.
The module focuses on the exploration of concepts, tools and techniques of use in the development and implementation of strategies that will lead to the achievement of growth in key business areas: in income, profitability, market share and shareholder value. Students will also examine a number of aspects that are integral to the attainment of these business goals, including customer retention and new business acquisition; building and sustaining high levels of customer satisfaction; creating differentiation; and exploiting sources of competitive advantage. While the regulatory environment is not expressly referenced in all sections, given its impact and influence on business strategy, it is an important consideration across all areas of the syllabus.
The module will enable students to build on previous studies and prepare them for strategic roles in financial services, in both the consumer and small business market segments.
