The ifs School of Finance today confirmed that Mr. Justin Urquhart Stewart, Director and co-founder of Seven Investment Management will be its special guest speaker at a prestige lecture event to be held at Leeds United Football Club on Thursday, 11 February 2010.
The event will see Mr. Urquhart Stewart deliver an informal lecture on two areas likely to impact many investment advisers in the coming years; the growing influence of the East and the increased focus on professionalism in the advice sector.
From an industry standpoint, the lecture will look at the increased focus on professionalism in the investment advice industry and the opportunities this presents. It will explore how the financial crisis has created a greater demand for advice and the implications of the FSA’s requirements for enhanced professional standards.
On a more macro level, Mr. Urquhart Stewart will look at the shift from West to East in the global economy and how this is likely to affect markets. He will focus on potential repercussions from the eventual withdrawal of stimulus packages, protectionist pressures and the implications of our growing dependence on US and China.
Nigel Pamment, President of the ifs Yorkshire Committee, said:
“We are delighted to kick off our first regional event of the decade with such a well known and trusted market commentator as Mr. Urquhart Stewart. His insights on the economy and the investment advice industry will have resonance for many in the sector and should make this event a very worthwhile experience for locally based financial services professionals.”
Originally trained as a lawyer, Mr. Urquhart Stewart has a keen interest in developing the investment market to break down many of the traditional barriers for both private investors and smaller companies. Having trained as a barrister, he took up international corporate finance, working in both Africa and Singapore and then back again in the UK. This led him to help found Broker Services in 1986, which went on to become Barclays Stockbrokers where he was Corporate Development Director. In early 2001, he co-founded Seven Investment Management (7IM).
The lecture takes place from 6-8pm on and will be followed by a drinks reception. The event is free but it is advisable to book a place in advance either by contacting the ifs School of Finance on 0207 337 6286 or e-mailing regionalnetworks@ifslearning.ac.uk
