User code/login

There is no specific code or login that the user must use initially; it is up to each user to create one.

The login chosen will appear on any printed or saved copy of the user's analysis when completing a mock exam. This is particularly relevant where the product is being used over a network and results can be saved to a shared drive.

It is not essential that any particular code is entered to run the CDT; anything can be entered in the boxes to move to the next screen and select a test.

Error message concerning 'Active X'

The Active X component is the part of the software that enables the saving of mock exam results. Some students using the CDT at work may find their IT department have restrictions that prevent this.

This is explained in the Readme.txt file that is contained on the CD and which appears in the folder when the CD is first saved onto the user's hard drive.

BackToTop

Run failures

The CDT will load automatically when the disk is put in the CD drive.

Sometime you may have to go into 'My Computer' and open the contents of the CD. From the files shown the CDT should load by double-clicking the Run file.

Other problems may be caused by restrictions on the PC.  Most such restrictions prevent downloading of files, writing to the hard drive (see Active X) or completely bar software being loaded altogether.

If you are having problems with this, please consult your IT department or whoever is responsible for the settings on your computer.

BackToTop

Copying

It is not permitted to copy the CD permanently onto a hard drive.

If it were, the user could save the CDT to their machine and hand the CD to someone else to use.

This is the basis on which all single user licences are sold. Corporates who buy a full networking licence are free to talk directly to Red Tray about how best to achieve this, given that system and server requirements vary from one company to another.

Pop-up blocking

Pop-up ad blockets can, unfortunately, stop certain programs such as the ifs School of Finance's CDTs from loading.

If you have one of these installed, you will need to ensure that you disable it before loading the CDT.

XP Service Pack 2

When the CDT is run under Windows XP or higher there may be problems with starting the tool.

A message may appear in Internet Explorer which invites the user to "click here to open the popup window".

If this doesn't solve your problem, then you can:

  1. Right-click on the desktop CDT icon and select “Properties”
  2. Click on “Shortcut” tab
  3. The “Target” box will show something like d:\index1.htm, where d: is your CD drive.
  4. This needs to be edited to d:\tool\frameset.htm if local saving is required or d:\tool\frameset1.htm if local saving is not required.
  5. Change the option in “Run” to "Maximised” and click “OK”.

Please note that when you have finished using the CDT, it will need to be closed by clicking “File” and “Close”. The Exit button on the Credits Screen will not work.

White screen when loading CeRCC or CeRGI® CDT

When the CeRCC or CeRGI® CDTs are launched with either Flash 8 or Flash 9 installed, you will only see a white screen. There are two alternative procedures that can be carried out to correct this problem:

If you have internet access:

  1. Left-click then right-click the blank screen and select "Settings".
  2. Click on the 'Advanced' button (a connection will be made to the Macromedia site).
  3. Select the 'Global Security Settings' Panel.
  4. From the 'Edit Locations...' box choose 'Add location'.
  5. Click on 'Browse for folder...'.
  6. Select the CD or DVD drive which contains the CDROM and click 'OK' (for added security expand the drive folder and select the "tool" folder).
  7. Close the browser window ("X" in top corner).
  8. Click on 'Close' to close the settings window.
  9. Press 'F5' to refresh the screen and restart the CDT. Otherwise 'Alt F4' (exit application) eject and re-insert the CD.

If you do not have internet access:

  1. Create the directory structure: "Documents and settings\<user name>\ApplicationData\Macromedia\Flash Player\#security\FlashPlayerTrust\".
    1. 'Application Data' is a hidden folder. To make it visible in Windows Explorer or My Computer, select 'Tools' then 'Folder Options'.
    2. Click on 'View' tab, select 'Show hidden files and folders' and click 'OK' (it is recommended that you reset this to 'Do not show hidden files and folders' after completing the steps below).
  2. Using Notepad create a text file called 'ifstrust.cfg' containing the path to the product eg d:\tool\ (if the CD or DVD has drive letter d:).
  3. Save it to the FlashPlayerTrust folder.
  4. Notes:
    1. You will need to create the directories '#security' and 'FlashPlayerTrust'.
    2. This has to be done on for each user wishing to use the CDT.
    3. The hash sign is required in front of the security directory name.
    4. More than one path can be entered into the cfg file if there are other products that need to be added.
