ifs Student Investor Details Page

Last year's ifs Student Investor was the most successful to date, with 40,000 students from 1,000 different schools taking part. Square One, from Loreto College, were crowned the winning team and selected from a panel of judges that included Lawrence Gold, from TV's 'The Bank of Mum and Dad'. The teams were also addressed by financial commentator Justin Urquhart Stewart. As their prize, Square One enjoyed an all expenses paid educational trip to New York and £2,000 for their school.
ifs Student Investor helps teach students the practical and theoretical processes involved in successful share trading. Each team is given a virtual £100,000 to invest in the Stock Exchange; the team that has the best performing portfolio will be taken through to the regional finals. Running from November 2010 to March 2011, this investment competition is an enjoyable way to introduce students aged between 14 and 19 to financial investment, as well as developing their key skills in areas such as teamwork and decision making. The competition also counts towards the Government's Every Child Matters and Wellbeing initiatives.
Registration runs from 6 September until 22 November 2010. To take part, teams of 4 students must be registered online by their teacher at www.studentinvestor.org. Register early to take advantage of the sandbox stage and practise trading from the time you register to the start of the competition when portfolios will be reset to the £100,000 starting point.
