Alumni Scholar Profile
Alois Angelo is a full-time student in his first year studying the BSc in Banking Practice and Management. He is also the first Alumni Scholar and recipient of a £1,000 scholarship from the ifs Alumni Fund. Below he explains why he chose to study with the ifs School of Finance and what difference the Alumni Scholarship award has made to him
Why did you decide to study with the ifs School of Finance?
Positions on graduate schemes are intensely competitive, especially in the financial services sector. In order to be successful you need to stand out from the crowd by having a recognised qualification and relevant experience. I know that studying for my degree with the ifs will give me the right knowledge, practical skills and understanding to keep me one step ahead of the competition when I graduate.
What aspects of the course are you enjoying the most?
The course has a logical flow with interlinking modules; the more challenging elements can be understood with support from the lecturers and the first-class learning resources that we have access to. I am really enjoying the ‘Customers and their Needs’ module; my interest and curiosity in the subject seems to grow with my knowledge of the finance industry. The more I learn the more I am excited about a career in financial services.
What difference has being awarded a scholarship made?
It has been a true privilege to be awarded the Alumni Scholarship. The award has enabled me to focus all my attention on my studies. I have been able to purchase a netbook to help me with my course as well as a range of textbooks. In addition I have been able to explore internships and other opportunities more freely as I am now able to cover my travel costs.
What does receiving a scholarship mean to you?
Receiving a scholarship has motivated me further. I am determined to achieve my goals and gain a qualification that will unlock my true potential. In addition to this, the scholarship has reduced the financial pressure and the stress so I can concentrate on my studies more.
