The Institute of Financial Services, part of the ifs School of Finance, has launched a ‘Certificate of Professional Achievement’ or CPA which it believes will help individuals that are qualified to Level 4, but who do not provide financial advice directly and are therefore not FSA registered, to show their commitment to professionalism. The Institute expects individuals in supervisory, training, planning or support functions who are not eligible for a Statement of Professional Standing (SPS) but have been through the same rigorous process will apply for the new CPA, evidencing their qualification level, ethical stance and commitment to on-going CPD.

Young Britons are being discouraged from saving for their future by the poor returns being offered by pension providers, says the ifs School of Finance Young Business Writer of the Year Alex Clifford. Alex, 18, from Queen Elizabeth’s Grammar School in Kent, won the prestigious annual competition and £500, which challenged school and college students to answer the question, “Why my generation has to start thinking seriously about longevity”.

A team of four students from Pate’s Grammar School in Cheltenham beat over 10,000 other teams to win the prestigious ifs School of Finance Student Investor Challenge. The Pate’s Grammar team, called “Surplus Value” will now travel to New York on an all expenses paid educational trip, as well as £2,000 for the school and £200 each.
